Fifty miles northeast of Prague lies the village of Kněžice. After hearing the concerns of the village inhabitants, Mayor Milan Kazda led the development and installation of a new innovative heating system for the community. Biowaste is gathered from surrounding villages and restaurants in Prague and processed to generate sufficient heat for the village as well as electricity, which they sell to the CEZ Group.
Energy box
IST Energy, which focuses on environmental products, created the GEM, a machine capable of transforming tons of waste into electricity and gas. This solution not only provides a carbon negative impact, but also has a tremendous potential economic benefit, by creating the energy and eliminating the waste stream.
