Power for the People
In 1991, the Czech Republic initiated the State Environmental Fund to financially support the conservation of the environment. Today, the fund awards grants to citizens who wish to convert their homes or businesses to alternative energy sources. The majority of the grants go towards solar panels for either water heating or other energy. Jakub Mottl, a business owner who installs panels, and Michal Faltýnek, a homeowner and grantee who has had panels on his roof since 1993, discuss their experiences with solar energy and some of the challenges they have faced.
